About Master Gunworks
The 1911 market uses terms like custom, semi‑custom, and full‑house in ways that have become increasingly unclear. Many pistols described as “custom” are factory‑produced firearms with configurable features or limited hand‑worked steps. While these pistols may offer good performance, they are not hand‑built in the traditional sense.
Master Gunworks operates differently.
A Master Gunworks 1911 begins with a raw, machined frame and slide. From there, one pistolsmith performs all machining, fitting, and finishing by hand. Manual machine tools, files, stones, and lapping compounds are used to establish every critical relationship — barrel fit, lock‑up, slide travel, ignition geometry, and timing. Nothing is delegated, automated, or performed in volume.
This approach produces a level of mechanical integrity, consistency, and smoothness that cannot be replicated by factory production methods. The accuracy of each pistol is a direct result of controlled geometry and deliberate hand‑fitting.
Master Gunworks builds a limited number of pistols each year. The focus is not on volume, but on maintaining a standard that does not change from one build to the next. Each pistol reflects the identity of its maker and the disciplined approach behind the work.
Thank you for your interest in Master Gunworks.
